Counting Apples with Peanut

apples1

We’re teaching Peanut how to add using our fingers and calling them apples. My apples and her apples. We usually have this conversation before bedtime.. and this is what happened last night, almost verbatim.

(Mommy) “If I had 1 apple and you have 1 apple. How many apples do we have together?”

“ONE! TWO!”

“So that means 1 apple plus 1 apple equals 2 apples! Yay Peanut!”

“YAY ME!” (Yea.. she’s loud and does speak in all caps) “Alright! My turn! If I had 2 apples and you had 2 apples, which one will I eat?”

“Umm.. that one? But Peanut.. we’re counting apples.”

“Oh ok! Sorry sorry sorry. If I had 2 apples and you had 2 apples, which one is the banana?”

“But none of them are bananas. You said they’re apples.”

“One of them is really a banana, guess which one Mommy.”

“Um… that one? Peanut.. let’s try counting apples again.”

“RIGHT! If I had 2 apples and you had 2 apples, which one has a worm in it? EWWWW”

“Umm.. that one? But Peanut…”

“Not mine Mommy! Yours has the worm! HAHAHA!”

She makes life worthwhile.
