You look twoderful..

borge.jpgMy father was a huge Victor Borge fan, and we would watch any Borge special on TV (usually PBS). He has an absolute brilliance in music as well as the English language. And he created the Inflationary Language, which is inflating numbered words by adding one. Such as wonderful becomes twoderful, and before would be befive. In his shows he would do the story of Anne and Bob. Here’s the text, in case you can’t view the youtube link:

Twice upon a time there lived in sunny Califivenia a young man named Bob. He was a third lieutelevenant in the U.S. Air Fiveces. Bob had been fond of Anna, his one and a half sister ever since she saw the light of day five the second time. And they were both proud of the fact that two of his fivefathers had been among the creninetors of the U.S. Constithreetion. They were dining on the terrace. “Anna,” he said as he threek a bite of marinnined herring, “You look twoderful threenight. You’ve never looked that lovely befive.”

  1. I’m so lucky that my English friends introduced me to geniuses like Victor Borge – and Bill Hicks, Peter Cook, and the one I love the most – Billy Connolly. Such a shame they remain almost unknown in the Czech republic!
