I listen to a lot of everyday Czech music like Shalom (Petr Muk), Lucie, and of course fairytales. And every now and then Hubby will remember a song or a band.. luckily yesterday was one of those days. So let me introduce to you:

Yo Yo Band – because there’s nothing like a bunch of Czechs, dressing like Mexicans, and singing to a Caribbean beat.

Buty – “Frantisek” – dudes in trees kind of reminds me of Crowded House

Michal David – from the movie Discopříběh based off his music. (As a footnote.. I do have proof that Hubby’s hair was exactly like that kids!)

I have finally decided to get very serious about learning Czech. I had toyed with the idea for years, and sure I’ve picked up the language along the way. But I’ve gotten away with learning it and passed it off at how hard it was.
A friend of mine is learning Russian because they’re about to adopt a little Russian girl. She’s immersed herself in the language and I know (she’s very persistent) that she’ll pick it up in no time.

10 years have gone by and all I have to show for it is a few cuss words and some basic words that I shared with our daughter.

No more procrastinating. It’s on.

My husband is the greatest in the world. We were watching Petr Muk sing Karel Svoboda’s Stin Katedral and I told him again how much I love this song. He introduced this song to me when we first began dating. The melody is dream-like, you can tell that he guy is just daydream, and immediately I had Hubby translate the lyrics for me.

Of course sung in it’s original language is beautiful, and yea, I can sing it word for word. I listened to it all these years, it was on the CD I made for our daughter when she was born, and now I play it when I need comforting.

Taking all of this to heart, my husband went to his music room, composed it, translated it in English.. and sang it. For me. For us. And now I’m letting you hear it. I’m very proud and very much in love.

Martin – Shade of A Tower

Isn’t this just the cutest tea house? It’s in Prague. I’m really digging the design and just maybe I can visit it next time we go there. Although I have a feeling my husband will be quite loud in it and my 4yr old with climb the walls…. OR I’ll just leave them outside of the teahouse and it’ll just be me in there. Spiritually sipping away.

Unless you’ve been under a rock (or Antarctica) you know by now that Michael Jackson died yesterday.

Shockingly, it upset my husband a great deal. He may be an adult now, but there’s still a hopeful starry-eyed Communist boy living in him that looked up to the King of Pop as the epitome of America. (To him) Jackson was everything that was wonderful about USA. Extravegence, glamour, music, and dreams.

My husband was in Prague for Michael’s HIStory tour in 1996. He was in a crowd of 120,000 people. He said he couldn’t see him, but he could hear him and feel the energy of the crowd. He said it was unforgettable.

Regardless of how you feel about Jackson’s legal problems, strange behavior, or eccentricities. His music was landmarking and legendary, therefore his creative divinity is to be honoured.

We tune in (online) every year to Eurovision and were so excited, as always, to see the Czech entry. I was disappointed with this years entry, but Hubby liked it. He said it was catchy and kind of funny. He’s just disappointed that Eurovision has turned into this kitchy competition when before it held some value.

But with that being said, I’m in love with the winner. Fairytale is not sung very well, but his emotion, lyrics, and melody is right on the mark. Even Peanut has me play it 10 times a day. Why is that? I think it’s a combination of the fiddle and the score. It’s just so good. Hubby isn’t impressed.

Hubby is clearly jealous.

I’m entering him into Eurovision 2010. If that Czech entry can make it… Hubby has a fighting chance! I’ll keep you all updated. Below is the Czech entry and the winner from Norway.

Chuck is the only TV show that we watch as a family. We look forward to it every Monday night and even our little Peanut likes to watch it (although she has to cover her eyes on fight scenes).

So NBC has Chuck on the bubble now. So according to the co-creator Josh Schwartz via his New York Times article. He said to send Nerds (the candy) to the NBC studio. Thanks to some other fans.. I have the NBC studio address.

We’re sending our box tomorrow.. with a picture of all 3 of us included (debating on including dog and cat too).

Happy Birthday my sweet Peanut. Today you’re 4 years old. Mommy feels old now and even more sad because you’re even less of a baby now, and I really loved you as a baby. But as a little girl, you’re wonderful. You’re vibrant, exciting, curious, loving, sensitive, shy, and talkative.

People love you. Kids want to be next to you. Puppies want to kiss you. Kitties run away from you (sorry).

Grandma bought you a birthday card Dec 2007, and she was too sick to give you a card on your birthday last year. I found the card and I’ll keep it for you. I won’t write in it because Grandma’s thoughts and intentions are inside of it, so I won’t disturb it. I’ll keep it safe for you until you get older and then you can have it. She was so proud of you and I am too.

We just finished watching Fast and Furious. And my friends know that I love car movies, and my husband does too.. which is why he agreed to watch this with me. He was noticeably quiet of his usual snips, so that I might watch in peace and nail-biting harmony.
Once it ended, all gloves were off:

Hubby said, “I’m full of cheese and now my tummy hurts”

Well I thought it was a great movie. Not nearly as good or quotable as Gone in 60 Seconds, but it’ll do nicely. I was hoping for a more prominent soundtrack and a closer look at the cars, but the chase scenes were pretty awesome. But what was up with all the girl on girl stuff in the club?

My husband is currently working right next door to The Varsity in downtown Atlanta and I told him that he has GOT to check out the restaurant because I heard it was fantastic (many friends tell me they often crave something from there). It’s a staple among the downtown Atlanta experience. He was psyched. Yea. He’ll go!

So he went. And he said it was the most disgusting food he has ever tasted. He said the hamburger was so greasy it had no taste, there was only 6 onion rings and WTF is up with that? and the hotdog looked like a pencil. He said everything was as flat as thought it got ran over by a Hummer.

He said he was so disappointed. The food is overrated and why was it so crowded? Do these people not know the food tastes like shit? I explained that maybe it was a comfort thing, a memorable experience for them. This just causes him to shake his head and simply say, “Americans.”
